Background
For as long as I can remember I have struggled with body image and my relationship with food. In high school and through my early 20’s I suffered with severe cases of both anorexia and bulimia. Those days are long behind me - I have been “healthy” for about 6 years. I am at a point now that I am happy with myself 80% of the time.
In continuing my path to healthiness and happiness, in October of 2010, I decided to become a vegetarian and love the lifestyle. After watching the documentary, Forks over Knives, and learning of the book, The 30-Day Vegan Challenge, I decided to do a attempt the vegan food lifestyle.
The other part of my journey involves running. I have always been athletic, but never a runner. Prior to this year, the furthest I had ever run at one time was 3 miles. Signing up for my first half marathon, the Indianapolis Mini Marathon (May 2011) triggered my love for running. I officially began training at the end of January of 2011 and successfully completed the race in just under 2 hours. I was hooked! I have now completed 2 half marathons and am looking for my next. One of my new goals is to run a half marathon in every (continental) state. My second goal is to run a Marathon. At this point, I have not broken the 14 mile mark on my long runs and the thought of a full marathon is terrifying to me, but I am excited to document my journey. You can see my past and future races here.
